American gambling films, though they may feature larcenous characters, seem preoccupied with fairness and morality, whereas the Asian films embrace life, unfairness and immorality included. The Asian gambling films seem to say, “Yes, the game is rigged. But that’s gamble. That’s life. And it’s wonderful.”
